The Bamboo Groove

The View of Monviso

Descrizione

The nineteenth-century facade looking onto the Great Lawn is one of the most picturesque sides of Miradolo Castle, with its three points and Round Tower, which stands detached from the building and is purely decorative in function. In the castle’s heyday, this was the breath-taking sight that greeted people when they arrived. Originally, the main entrance to the castle was here, reached by a tree-lined driveway that crossed the central clearing, in what must have been an experience of true enchantment.
The Round Tower was commissioned by Elisabetta Ferrero della Marmora in 1839 for her son Federico Massel’s wedding to Luigia Callori di Vignale, a wealthy noblewoman from Casale. Restoration work in 2015 repaired the roof, secured the balcony, and breathed new life into the decorations. The approach was extremely conservative in scope, with the aim of dusting off the signs of time without erasing them altogether, preserving them as part of the memory and soul of this place.
Other towers can be seen hovering in the background. They are complementary elements, each with their own identity, geometry, and style, offering protection and aperture, depth and perspective to an architectural complex that, just like the park, finds it harmony in the difference of its forms, styles, and eras.
